Most people who ring about repair have been staring at the same patch of concrete for a couple of years, and what they actually want is somebody to tell them how serious it is. That is the first thing that happens on the visit, and it costs nothing whichever way it goes.

What we put right

  • Cracked and broken panels cut out square and re-poured, tied into what stays.
  • Worn and flaking surfaces, where there is enough sound concrete beneath to build on.
  • Failed aprons at the street, rebuilt to whatever the authority for your road requires.
  • Steps and landings that have cracked, dropped at one end, or lost a nose.
  • Sections of walk and path that have become a trip rather than a route.
  • Garage and shed slab edges that have broken away at the door.

What we do not do, said up front

  • We do not lift or mudjack. If your slab is whole and has simply settled, raising it is cheaper and quicker than anything we would do, and we will say so.
  • We do not do foundations. Flatwork only: drives, patios, walks, pads, steps.
  • We do not sell a replacement to somebody who needs a repair. It is a short-term way to lose the next three jobs on the same street.

Repair or replace, in three sentences

If the concrete is worn but everything is still sitting at the same height, a repair is usually real and usually lasts. If one part has moved relative to another, the ground has shifted, and putting the surface right does nothing about that. The count matters too: past roughly a third of the panels you are paying for the same setup and the same haulage over and over.

The long version, with the five-minute test you can do yourself before anyone visits, is here: is your driveway finished, or just tired?

How it works

1. Send us a photograph

A picture of the damage and one of the whole slab tells us more than any description. The form takes a minute.

2. We come and look

We tell you what failed and why, which of the options apply, and what each one is worth on your slab. In writing, before we leave.

3. We do the work

Cut out square, ground put right underneath, poured, finished and jointed to match, and the site swept behind us.

The order things have to happen in

Where more than one thing needs putting right, the sequence is not arbitrary and getting it wrong costs real money.

Levels run downhill from whatever is fixed. If a drive, a path and the approach at the street all want work, the piece that cannot move sets the heights for everything else, and doing the flexible parts first means meeting a level that has not been decided yet. That is how a path ends up half an inch proud of the slab it joins.

Drainage works the same way. Correcting where water goes at the top of a slope while the bottom stays as it is simply delivers the problem faster to the part you have not fixed.

So a multi-part repair gets planned as one thing even when it is paid for in stages. We will tell you which piece has to go first and why, and if the honest answer is that a stage should wait until the one above it is funded, that is what you will hear.

Getting the equipment to it

Worth raising early: it decides more about a small repair than the repair does.

A failed panel on a front drive is straightforward: the saw, the breaker, the barrow and the waste all reach it from the street. The same panel at the back of a house, behind a gate, down a side return, or across a lawn that will not take a loaded machine is a different day's work even though the concrete involved is identical.

Tell us what the access looks like when you send the form, or put a photograph of the side of the house alongside the one of the damage. It is the most useful thing you can give us before we arrive.

Where we work

Pleasant Prairie and out across Kenosha County. Somers sits to the north of us; the lake villages of Salem Lakes, Twin Lakes, Paddock Lake and Bristol lie west. Repair work at the street is the part that varies most from one village to the next, because the authority that governs your road decides how the approach gets rebuilt. We establish which one you fall under before quoting.

The rest of what we lay

Repairs often turn into a conversation about the whole thing. If that happens, our concrete driveway and concrete patio pages cover new work, and we can quote both at the same visit.

Free on-site visit

A few quick questions, then a local concrete contractor gets in touch to arrange a free on-site visit. "Only pricing it up for now" is a fine answer, and so is "somebody told me it needs replacing and I want a second opinion".
